quick note!

Just a little entry to proudly announce that I have changed position's at work. I now have the ungrateful job of checking on the people I work with, which makes Walmart really happy. If I find an error it means our company is not doing it's job well. LOL! So yesterday I proudly found an error and was so proud, until my boss made me realise that errors were not so good. Oh well, I'm still learning! ;)

Carl is progressing VERY well too, he's name was on a top 5 list of people counting the most in the stores. He was so proud, of course a raise seems to me in his near future and I am working good until trying to earn one as well. ;) I finally feel confident in the new position I got, it's one that workers hope to get, of course I didn't know that until I got a few bad comments. I was really hurt this week by people I thought were my friends, maybe it's jealousy but I never had to deal with that. I know my speed is far from the other auditors that have worked there for a while. I haven't been with the company for two months yet but I finally feel at my place, starting to feel confident in my own work, that I am worth it too. You usually only hear when things are bad, so yesterday I blatantly asked my boss if I was doing good in my new position. He gave me the thumb's up and said I was doing very well. WOW! I little proud moment there. :)

Oh, one of the perks of being a recounter is getting to walk with a walkie talkie. LOL! Hey, that means you are someone important in a store and *I* got one! :-P So many times a day I had to call my boss to check up on counts I got. It's fun, I walk alot and feel a lot less pressure in my work now.

Started my celtic cap from Jenna, it's going well. A great pattern, though I am going at it slowly. It's my 1st time working cables from a chart, so many new symbols to learn. ;)

wishing you all a super duper weekend!!! :)
hugs,

Back to work!

Today was a celebration in our little household, we had a party for our back-to-health Lucas to celebrate his 3 years of age. :) We woke up to pancakes lovingly mixed by our big boy, then we took the subway, always a favorite of the kids. Went to the Biodome and saw the animals, this is the closest thing to a zoo we, city folks, can get to see animals at. In the daytime you can see the penguins live on webcam. We must've spent almost an hour seeing them jump around and swim in the water. ;) Below, some of the animals we saw at the Biodome.

I worked all weekend on a hat and when I finally tried it on it just looked awful. Sigh... it was not a gauge problem or sizing, it just didn't look good on me. Back to the frog pound, guess it's just on other reason to start the celtic cap and hope that it will suit me well.

So back to swatching once again, gosh I hate it with a passion, I'm so used to having to swatch a few times to hit gauge that by the time I start the actual project, I'm almost fed up with it already. Anyways, I have Zoe's sweater to bring along on the road this week and the celtic cap. Lucas still wants skippers knitted by mom, this time purple instead of blue. Sure.... tell me after I knitted you blue ones kid! ;)

Happy kids in a wonderful sunny and snowing day! :)
hugs,

A new day!

Today is a great day, it's saturday and NOT sunday like I thought when I woke up. Which meant the store's sale was starting today, so while chatting with Crystal online, I decided we NEEDED a dvd player (nothing fancy just a basic model). Hey, we can't be the only ones stuck in the past and we already have a few dvds in our collection. LOL! No need to watch the computer anymore, I can do my yoga in the living room. Kelloggs has a great promotion right now, you can get a free dvd movie inside the box. So we are proud owners of some Rice Krispies and Fruit Loops, which came with the Spy Kids movie (Zoe's favorite movie of all!!!) and Monkey Trouble, another kids favorite movie. The number of times Lucas went hiding under his bed, only calling "little monkey" would make him come out from under. LOL!

Lucas is in top shape, his little birthday party tomorrow will be a lot of fun. If the weather can stay as nice as today, we will have a "fun in the snow" celebration day. On the skating lesson subject, the kids will stay at two nights a week. I'm so glad that it ended up this way. They will not get lessons anymore to improve their skating skills though but will practice for the final show.

Over the weekend, some changes may happens on my blog, don't worry in the end it shall be very cute! :)

Day five of Lucas being ill. This morning he seems in better shape though yesterday was yet another sick day. :( He had 3 incidents, he hasn't eaten more than a few bites since sunday at lunch. Last night we heard his stomach growl, poor kid, we seems to have lost weight too. UGH!

Then as a little happy treat to him I knitted a hat and a mocassin slipper. He liked his hat for all of 10 seconds then decided he prefers purple to the namvy blue he chose just a day ago... Then the slipper was a tad too small, I know he won't wear it anyways, so to the frog pound it went. It's so hard to knit for the kids and then get such a response as "nooooooooo, I don't want to try it, I don't like it!" ACK!

Carl checked our work schedule and noticed that we are NOT sleeping in town this next week but that we are leaving monday to sleep OUT of town for two nights. Oh my goodness, I can't believe I made such a mistake, I was convinced that we were not sleeping away, good thing he checked, if we had missed the pick up time at our work place. I can tell you a few would have been pretty mad at us. So now, I have to think which knitting project shall I pack with me! LOL! Maybe I should stop searching for afterthought heel patterns and actually start to knit a pair. If I had done that at the beginning of the week, maybe I'd already have a pair mostly knitted and could have shown them off to you all. LOL!

Oh well, back to knitting, this time I'll start a project for myself and I better like it in the end! LOL! ;)

more of the same

Our little one still has the sickies, we met with a nurse yesterday and at least he is dehydrated. Still in the evening he was sick a few times. Today is the fourth day and we are just eager that he gets better soon.

Thought I'd show off my little achy breaky heart, my knit in center stitch didn't come out too good! LOL! I used this link to learn how to knit 3 times into a stitch. I always said I had a special talent for not understanding to simplest of things. I guess this is one of them. The heart was done in a flash unfortunately, it just came out funny.

Zoe's skating lessons will be down to once a week after friday, I am so sad. :( She LOVES her lessons but they are starting to prepare the final show and need the ice for kids to learn there special numbers. It's sad because I paid for the kids to have lessons twice a week but can't do anything about it. Worst, my mom will have to bring both kids to the lesson on wednesdays but Lucas will have to sit and watch Zoe's hour-long lesson. It's not fair for him, for my mom and to us. It means I will never see Zoe skate anymore until her final show. :( It means no more badges eitehr and I'm sure Zoe could have gotten the 4th one but oh well, that's more about me than her. ;) The head coach did joke that Lucas needs a solo number, since he never wants to skate with the toddlers but still it's just unfortunate that only a few weeks ago (like 3-4 weeks) I paid for him to get 2 lessons per week and now he has to only skate once a week. How is he suppose to improve? It saddens me just becuase I know how much the kids love to skate.

Since Lucas has been feeling so bad I decided to get a smile out of him and asked him if he would like knitted slippers from mom. He smiled and chose Bernat Denim as his yarn of choice (honey, you are sure you don't prefer the warm sooooft woooool yarn instead?) and started knitting the wrong size of mocassin. Sheesh! I'm such on a roll these days. LOL! Frogged it and started over, I hope he likes them in the end. ;)

There are so many projects I want to start, it's like I can't knit fast enough to do everything I want. I have 8-9 balls of Kureyon left from my little Toronto vacation back in november. Maybe I should knit a raglan sweater for Zoe, she'd LOOOOVE it and think I'm the bestest mommy ever for a day or two! ;) Maybe I should knit some Fuzzy Feet for myself with some of it or... or... or... so many ideas, so little time to knit.

Well back to knitting while I'm home.

p/s: I've been looking for knitted messenger bag patterns, anyone seen any a part from the Mercury?

same old,

Lucas is still sick, won't even keep the rehydration solution down. I'm exhausted, the kid is too. I'm starting a cold when I just finished one. I'm simply beat right now, on my week off which I was suppose to rest. Lucas is so not himself, usually such a happy child. UGH! I can't help but feel lame when my kid is so sick. :(

Started knitting a hat for dh, well, I think it might fit Lucas! LOL! The pattern is the Simplest cap of all. I'm using navy blue Classic Wool, he'll be warm, whoever this hat fits. I just feel like Zoe's sweater is never going to end. I needed a quick project to see tht yes knitting projects can be done quickly at times.

Oh I made the heart shaped dishcloth, it did NOT come out too well. LOL! I'll post a pic later on, now Lucas is needed help to get dressed.

Birthday boy! :)

Today my baby is 3! Time sure flies by when we have kids. Lucas is still sick though but hopefully he'll be able to hold something down todday, he hasn't eaten more than a snack in two days. This is the hardest part of being a parent, standing there and seeing your kid in pain and not being able to magically take it away. He usually is much cuter in pics but today he had his little 'I smiled snap the picture already' attitude! ;)

As usual his spirits are good though, he's always such a happy child. It's in the evening that he gets a little less happy. You can see that he becomes miserable and all we can do is hold him until he falls asleep. He gets up once a night and that's pretty much it. I got up at 6am with his this morning, OYE! after a few days off of work 6AM seemed too early. LOL! He is mellow, happily watching Caillou and drinking his rehydration drink. Now if only he could eat, I fear that he will not want to eat from being afraid it will not stay in his system. Poor kid, he just LOVES food too. UGH! No birthday cake for him either, such a sad time to celebrate his birthday.

Anyways, tried to knit a bit but Lucas kept us busy with cleaning up and laundry. ;) At least one thing is constant, the only place he feels great is when in the tub. This boy could take a bath all day long if we let him. Hopefully today will be a good day and we will at least get him out of the house for some fresh air.

As for knitting content, here it is. I have always been obsessed with bags (others might love shoes instead) and knitting a bag is like the best thing to knit in my opinion! LOL! So I'm thinking over buying these patterns or not. First up is Mercury, a felted messenger bag that is big enough for your laptop. Ok, so I don't have said laptop but I love messenger bags. Then there's the patchwork style PATCHpurse. This bag (I don't like the word purse) just looks fun to stuff with little treasures. LOL!

Then there's this new obsession I have about socks, I really should start knitting a pair again. Still have a few lonely single socks but knitting a pair is just too boring, right? ;) So I've been researching a new way to knit socks and the afterthought heel intrigues me. I have seen this book online too: Crazy Toes & Heels. I've heard many good comments about the book and not really anything bad, so why am I still wondering if it's worth it? LOL! The price is pretty steep, if only they had a sale or something! ;) Would this book really make me knit BOTH socks and finally get a wearable pair of handknitted socks for myself? LOL!

Well off to celebrate the birthday boy! Here are pictures on his first day in our family. :)

Sad..

Just as all seemed to go well, now I am sad. Lucky though as we are in town for once but still it's hard. My little boy is sick, it started last night as we were preparing to leave for work. He took a long bath and seemed ok after. We left for work and a few hours later at break I called home. Lucas had been sick 3 more times. I started crying in the ladies washrooms and Carl just knew I couldn't stay away from my boy. He asked our supervisor if we could leave and our big Walmart boss (who was looking after the store last night) permission for us to go take care of our little one. My supervisor came and told me, that I could have stayed home if I knew Lucas was sick, no need to come to work when you have loved ones at home not feeling well. It was nice to hear, being new in the working world, it was nice to get sympathy from a person higher ranked not even a parent. Our Walmart boss gave us a ride to the closest subway station and I think in a way I got his respect last night. He saw that even though we are both working together, Carl and I are parents before anything else. I just felt so bad knowing that I was in town and my mom had to take care of both kids on her own.

I did jokingly reassure the big boss that if we were in Cornwall and the kids were sick, I wouldn't leave on the spot to go take care of them, he laughed. Last night I made him laugh a few times and I am glad I did. I even learned that he is younger than both Carl and I. That was quite a shocker, he seems older and he gets the respect of the people he works with. It is weird to know he's younger but he's responsible and hey, he's my boss so I treat him with respect and try to be polite at all times. LOL!

I did learn that I got the minimum at work at least once last week, 10K/hour. I said that next time I hit the 10 000$ per hour I would like a bell to be rng or something, so that I know. He thought that was pretty funny, I was thinking like what they do at the stock market when they start the day. Hey, I deserve special treatment right? ;) Carl got to learn that he is doing very well in his new section, he is counting risers (which is the top shelf of every aisle), he has to carry a ladder all day long. I did get some reassurance that I am doing good, the max someone in my section can count is 12-13K/hour. It was nice to get a little up to date on our work, you usually only hear when bad things happen but not when you are doing well.

Back to Lucas, once we finally got home (an hour later) he was sleeping peacefully, he looked like a little angel. It was heart-wrenching. He was probably so weak from being sick, he just had to recuperate. Late in the night Carl got up to give him some juice (we got a special rehydrating recipe from the nurse on call), Lucas couldn't hold it down again. :( This morning he work up all happy and hungry, OYE! There's not much you can give him a part from the BRAT (banana, rice, applesauce, toast) menu. He didn't touch the applesauce and toast since he was sick from it the night before. Carl just went to see the pharmacist with Lucas and hopefully we'll get a miracle answer, poor kid is sick from every end possible. It's hard to see him hurting like that, I am happy that we are not on the road while this is happening though. At least he knows we are here for him.

Now can he just get back to health by tomorrow, his birthday? Sigh.... he just has to be ok to eat cake, how can you not eat cake on your 3rd birthday?

post-Valentine

You are Acrylic.
You are Acrylic.
While you are very versatile, your plasticky
countenance can be offputting. You are very
good with children but can become a pill if
left alone with them too long. You are very
flexible but don't give in to manipulation.

What kind of yarn are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

With a few days late, here's my 'what kind of yarn are you?' result! Anyone surprise that I got acrylic? LOL! It seems that acrylics always seem to creep back into my life. Of course I don't think I saw any other blogger with this same result, oh well, I don't mind acrylic is fine with me. Sure I would have preferred to be merino wool instead but acrylic is versatile and affordable. LOL!

I did not end up with dishcloth cotton but will still join Brenda's dishcloth-a-long. Maybe I will finally knit up the cute heart shape dish/facecloth. Might get either, pink, red or pink variegated cotton to make this cute project. Of course Miss Zoe will love to receive one as she loves hearts. Both kids had a blast wishing Happy Valentine's day to everyone yesterday. LOL!

As a treat to myself I bought red yarn! See I was staying in the days theme too. ;) I now have beautiful Tibet yarn from Ornaghi Filati to knit up my celtic cap. I can't wait to swatch and get started, good thing Jenna made the pattern very detailed, I shouldn't have too many questions along the way.

Working this evening at Future Shop, wish I didn't have too. We're pretty tired both we better go, we only have 2 days scheduled this week and we will refuse any other days they will ask us to work. The kids need us home for once and we need the time off. We are both exhausted. I am so happy to have some time home and get a chance to knit too!!! I missed it so much, it feels really odd not having time to knit.

Anyway that's it for us today, have a great day! :)

P/S: I have noticed that in the past few days, people have ended up on my blog after searching for the candle flame shawl on Google. I have updated my link the the pattern via the web archives.

Happy Valentine's day! :)

Hope you are having a lovely day, Valentine's day is always a reason for us to celebrate with the kids. Decorate with little hearts and eat cake! Hey, we're wild people remember! lol!

This week while we were away at work Lucas got his 1st skating badge!!! (You can see him here skating with his new pal Luka!!!) I couldn't be happier for him. He kept the secret until we came back home and told us with such pride. That's my little surprise from the previous post. For his birthday my mom bought him his white skating sweatshirt, now he feels like a 'real' skater. Last night he got 20 minutes of one on one learning with one of the head coaches of the rink. I was happy that they finally took the time to make him feel important. Usually Lucas just skates away from the toddlers and goes to skate with the big girls from Zoe's group. It's pretty funny to see as no one seems to notice that he disappears all the time. Lucas seems proud that he can skate away without getting caught. It ever cracked up a few other parents last night! ;)

We keep getting great comments on Zoe's skating, she really is progressing well. Even though she's not five yet, she's been selected to skate with the bigger kids for the skating recital in April. Next week she'll start practicing with them. These kids are like 7 years old and up, most have been skating for two years but Zoe just doesn't fit with the younger group as she skates with such pride and assurance. She just 'has it', know what I mean? Skating seems to be her thing, it's unbelievable. We will try to find her a dance class for the summer, she keeps on dancing around the house all the time, she really is very artistic. A mom told us she has such good body coordination for her age, we just thought that she likes to dance around and show off. LOL!

Anyway, here's a pic of Zoe's sweater, it's still stalled as I am reading the pattern for my celtic cap and decided I didn't have the correct yarn to knit it. Need to go on a yarn shop hunt, which store will I go too this time!? The one that offers horrible customer service, sales yarn at higher price than others or the store that makes me feel like I am not welcomed!? Hummm.... wish I had more local stores to shop too. Maybe I'll order online but then couldn't start my har on my week off. It would be nice to get to actually wear said hat before summer! LOL! Wish I could knit the Rogue hooded sweater but it is really too hard for me, sure I could try but I know I just would give up, sweaters are projects that seem too big for my time and talent. I still haven't finished the one I had started for myself. Maybe I'll pick that up this week also.

Now if only Interweave Knits would get to the store already, I'm impatient to read it, didn't buy the last Vogue Knitting issue as it just didn't appeal to me. So I haven't read a knitting magazine in such a long time, I miss them so much.

p/s: I am sorry to say that if you have emailed me in the past week, I did not receive your email. My email server seems to have gone crazy while I was out of town. Hopefully it's ok now, be sure to leave a comment if you email me. Thanks. :)

February 12, 2004

happy!

Oye! I'm sorry that the week started before I had time to post again. We worked at a local Walmart on tuesday and then wednesday left really early (4:45am) for Cornwall, slept in Brockville last night and now home in good ol' Montreal tonight! Now the happy news is that we have a WEEK off from working at Walmart's. LOL! The happier news is that my paycheck was very nice to receive today. LOL! I am really digging getting a money after all of the hard work we have been doing. Most of it will be to pay bills, of course but I have already talked with Carl about a few extras I want to do with the kids in this next week.

Lucas will turn 3 years old and I want his special day to be the greatest for him. I find it very important to make the kids feel like a prince/princess for a day once a year. They get to do 'almost' whatever they want too. We try to make them just be as happy as they can be. A year we spent the day at the park for Zoe's birthday, now this year Lucas is old enough to really enjoy his special day. I am so happy that we will only work 2 days this week. We will splurge the kids with attention and hopefully I'll get some time to knit too. lol! ;)

Still haven't had time to knit a little heart shape dishcloth, I hoped to have done one by Valentine's day. Oh well, at least we'll be off on saturday and spent the day with our lovely family. I am happy, I love my life, my job had really contributed in making me feel like a new person (even though sometimes at work, they refer me simply as the girlfriend, I try to prove that I am a person too!). I notice more that the kids are growing up fast by spending some time away from them, I am proud to see that they are growing up well, turning into little people I am proud to know. They are just too cute for words. ;)

Now this week, I shall post pics of those said kids!!! :)

I got a huge surprise when I came home tonight but more on that tomorrow, might not be as special to you guys as it was to me but hey, I am just so proud! :)

hugs, wishing everyone a fun weekend! :)

February 06, 2004

life goes on

Walmarts are fun to count at BUT the sewing section is horrid, why do they need so many sewing accessories in one store? Ok, I'm joking here but within the week I am now the rolling door/rack expert counting all the sewing and quilting items in every Walmart. Counting sewing machines in easier. ;) I am getting faster at counting the watches, which need to be scanned one at a time even if the whole display is the same kind. Ugh! Beading pearls are a pain though, those little bags don't scan half the time and they are hard to count.

Don't get me started in counting yarn balls, the bigger sizes are ok but those fun fur type balls are so tiny, they pack them in so tight too. Anyway, I still enjoy the work immensly and that's the main concern. Got quicker this week too, almost made it to the $/hour average minimum they want. Carl is doing super well and now works doing the risers aka the top shelf of every section. He goes up and down the ladder all day long, quite the work out if you ask me. ;)

Knitted a bit but not enough to be happy about it, still knitting the sleeves of Zoe's sweater. I though I'd have more time to knit on the road but it's just so hectic. Sure we get out of the stores before 6pm but then we go back to the hotel room, relax, go out to eat supper then already we are beat for the night.

The good part is that this weekend we aren't working (that I know of) and next week we only sleep away from home once!!! After that we have 6 weeks where we will be sleeping home but getting up at like 3:30am. Now is that really a better option? LOL! I miss reading everyone's blog so much, I feel disconnected from my knitting friends. Hopefully spending more time home and having computer access will change that.

hugs, wishing everyone a safe weekend. I promise pictures some day, time, I need more time. ;)

Walmart week 3

Last night we watched the new season of Survivor, it was fun to see some of the older contestants. Missed 3/4 of the Super Bowl because of work, we got sucked into helping out a team and instead of being there an hour we ended up staying for FIVE hours, missed the big game and most importantly, missed spending time with the kids. We couldn't be more mad though, sure banking some working hours in fun, on thursday we'll be in overtime already but still. I don't think it should be just for the money either.

It was funny though, since we arrived at the store once most of the auditors left, people working in the store thought we were like experts or really good auditors to help out with problems! LOL! So ok.... I let the women think that we were great, hey, it felt good! ;) We got to find plenty of errors and repair a few bad counts, it was fun finding other peoples errors, at least they'll never know so it's not like I felt bad for them. I felt more mad that they made so many though.

Got home super late and knitting like crazy watching Survivor, I can't believe Richard is back to running around in the buff again. I started Zoe's sleeves on her sweater, there is hope that it will get done before next summer! LOL! I am confident that I will knit more this week. Working on the road just gets crazy at times, I want to meet people but at the same time, I love spending time alone in my own room with Carl. We watch tv, sip some hot cocoa and I knit without anyone gawking. It feel like home, you know? Sometimes I miss the kids and feeling like home even hours away makes me feel better.

Let's just hope this new week flies by quickly, I miss them already. Oye!
hugs,

Sunday

I've seen a preview of the next Interweave Knits issue and I am eager for it to come out. It seems like so long since I bought a knitting magazine, I miss reading them. In the new issue of IK, I really like the no-sweat pants, not sure if they would be really practical but I think it's neat that someone designed them using homespun yarn, it's such a fluffy cushy yarn. If I were in a boaby mood, I would be SO tempted by the heirloom aran baby set but frankly seeing that my kids are growing up makes me happy. Right now two is the perfect number for us, maybe in the future.... we'll see. My little man will turn 3yo this month and it's so exciting to see him turn from baby/toddler to little boy. He's such a happy kid, his eyes always filled with amazement(!?) about everything. Salt peanuts from Veronik Avery is a neat sweater, once again I'm rooting for my friend but it's a cute little number, not my style but I could see so many wanting to make it. I'm still laughing over why this is called Salt Peanuts, I can still hear the music that it was inspired by. ;)

Zoe's sweater is s-l-o-w-l-y progressing, I wish I had more time to knit it, since I want to knit one for Lucas too. Guess I should have started with his, maybe it would have been done in time for his birthday. I don't think I'd bring socks to knit on the road, they would take a million years to knit. Our schedule once on the road is pretty crazy, get up early, work, come back to hotel, find a place to eat supper, relax, sleep. Wake up call the next morning always seems to come to quickly, I've tried going to bed at 10pm (just that is a big step for me) but still we are so tired anyways. It's the travel time that seems to suck out all of our energies. Anyway, one thing is steady, I LOVE my job! :) Some days are hard though, I still need to build confidence and pick up speed at work, I feel like I have a lot of weight on my shoulders to perform. You never know when you do well, just when you make errors, so each time a boss comes by, I stress. LOL! Poor them, they must wonder why I tense up each time they say hello to me! ;) I'm hoping this week will go better as always, it will be our 3rd week. Most workers are doing well, Carl is progressing super well!!! He couldn't be more proud, the auto parts and garden section, he really likes. I'm still learning my new section, hopefully I'll be in jewellery for a while 'cause learning a new section each two days is hard too. You can never compare and see if you make progress. Anyway, I just hope that all goes well.

Sadly I haven't found any new yarn stores to search for this week. So maybe I'll just sit in my room and knit like mad for once! LOL! Though to socialize a bit I want to go play cards with a few new friends. We are always hanging out with our 8-person Montreal team but the Walmart core is 40 people. I know most like me as I make just about anyone laugh, it would be nice to know new people and also get away from the early 20yo 'kids' that we are always with. I feel out of space with them, clubbing, drinking, partying just isn't my reality. I know of a few that have kids so eac tuesday we talk about how our weekend went together and also on thursdays we wish each other a good weekend with our little loved ones. It's nice, now if only I could find a knitter in the group! LOL! My supervisor talked about learning to knit but when someone pointed her to me she froze. Not sure she really wants to learn after all, her loss not mine.

Well enough typing for now, washing awaits me, might go into work today for a few hours of paid practice on the machines. LOL! Next week we only sleep one night away from home, it'll be a nice change. :)

p/s: please forgive me for not including the link to the easy peasy cardigan this week. Just a little slip in all my excitement! LOL!
hugs,
