We're home as of late last night! Already I am starting to be an expert on hotel rooms. No coffee machine in a room is just WRONG! So we bought an electric kettle! LOL! We could make hot cocoa, coffee, tea, cup o'soup, instant oatmeal. Fridges are important too, then we can buy milk and eat out of those tiny cereal boxes on mornings. ;)
Yesterday at 6am, we passed in front of Canada's Parliament in Ottawa. A sense of pride came over me, it was weird but at the same time, so many decisions are taken place there, it was nice to see it up close like that. By 6:30am, we were at yet another Walmart and they were in the same mall as Woolaine. If you ever are in the Orleans area, please go and check the store out. The couple (I'm guessing the owners!?) there were VERY friendly, proud to talk about knitting with Carl and I. I wished I had enough time 'cause I would have bought some yarn for sure. I got to see and touch Jo Sharp's tweed, I have only heard about Jo Sharp in magazines.
I got switched teams at work again. So in two weeks I worked on 3 different areas of Walmart. I ended my week in jewellery, I got to sop for watches at the same time! LOL! Scanning watches one by one sure takes a long time but at least it's pretty easy and then we start working in the crafts section. :) Just a reminder, when checking the yarn at Walmart have a little thought for me! LOL! I'm counting all those balls, either they are in the right spot or not. So many textures, so many colors. It's hard to resist them sometimes!
That's it for now, got my first 2 week paycheck last night, that was niiiiiiiiiiiice! Might splurge on myself with a personal CD player, it would be nice to listen to some of my kind of music when we travel for hours. Some times let's just say that the music the 7 other travellers like aren't quite my taste. ;)
Off to go register my BIG girl to kindergarden! She couldn't be more excited, then we will treat her to some at Cora's to celebrate her big day. It's the kind of restaurant where they pile your plate with huge amounts of the freshest of fruits. YUM! You have no idea how much I crave fresh fruits after a week of restaurant foods. We did good though, still no fast foods in our diet.
hugs, enjoy the weekend! :)
I just updated my desktop's image, I like to change it about every month so it's not too boring. On the Hallmark website I downloaded an interactive desktop calendar, very cute and the kids will love it. Look under new & notable, it's an easy thing to set up and fun to discover too. You will need an up to date flash player, your desktop will then become alive with the adventure of a teddy bear. LOL!

Please note the cute baby in the picture is NOT mine! LOL! Gregory is Theresa's son (the sweater's designer), he was born 8 weeks early but keeps on growing strong now weighing 7lb at 6 weeks old!!!

Wishing you all a safe and fun new week! See you next weekend.
hugs,
Oh dear, what a week, what a weekend and tomorrow it all starts over again! Sadly I haven't had one second to knit so this will be yet again another update about my work and not about knitting. Next week I promise to talk about it as I KNOW that there will be a yarn store in our itinerary. LOL! We will be working in a mall and there's a yarn store called Woolaine in Orleans, I will have to stop there on my lunch hour.
The job is fun, employees in Walmart's are always nice to us but foolishly think we can't talk in english. So they basically check us out, talk about us and then I walk up to them and ask them a question in english. I just love to see their faces. LOL! Then once they seem to think I am friendly they keep coming by my section and talk. Everyone keeps talking to me, sure it's nice but I'm paid to count, not entertain bored employees. ;) We worked in three stores and I hated the first one with a passion, I made two errors in the first hour of work. I felt so down and was ready to go pack and leave for home. On the third day I have changed teams and now work with Carl with the greatest and friendliest of supervisors. We even had lunch with him that day. He doesn't mind if I count slowly or not, the more I do, the less he has. He's a very simple guy that just wants to be treated like the others, doesn't like to be called boss, so he is more like a friend than a mean supervisor. lol!
I get motion-sickness in cars so travelling with 8 people in a van is hard for me. I've been taking Gravol and that's helping. I just can't knit on the road though. Our wake up calls this past week were at 5:15, 4:45 and 5:30am, those are hours I have never woke up on purpose for. LOL! Every morning we stop at Tim Horton's for breakfast and then eat in the van. Oye! Not an easy task for me, coffee burns and then you drop half of your bagel, sesame seeds all over the place! LOL! Luckily in our hotel room we had a mini-fridge so we bought some milk and those kiddie sized cereal boxes and ate cereal in the morning in our room. Others heard about this so then mornings became more busy in our room as people felt like they should crash in with us and talk with us in the morning. Then after work we'd come back to the hotel and everyone would knock on our door to see where we'd go eat that evening. Sure we are friendly but I thought this was too much, Carl and I never got a second alone, well until we'd kick people out because we wanted to go to sleep! LOL!
One evening our phone was busy so a 'friend' came knocking on our door when they got the busy signal. I was talking with the kids and it just aggravated me that they knew someone was using the phone but felt compelled to bother us yet again. Oh well, at least people weren't avoiding us. Lesson learned though, this new week, we're not telling anyone our room number, see how long that lasts! LOL! ;) The kids loved talking on the phone each night and we felt like we wren't too far from them after all. :) I had made them a little paper chain before leaving on monday so each day they took off a chain piece and knew how many more days it would be before we came back. Also I gave them each one of my stuffed Elmo's (a girl can never have too many!) and instructed them to give him kisses and hugs each time they thought of us. I brought my own Elmo (it's a SMALL one, don't worry!) and he would give me the kiss & hugs and kids gave theirs to me. Each night on the phone, they would ask if Elmo gave me all their love, it was very special to know they remembered and felt it was important that Elmo was a connection between all of us. :)
Eating healthy has been easier than I thought, breakfasts were easy (cereal at hotel and bagel at Tim's), then lunches were soups (once at hotel the other at Tim's), once at Subway. We stayed away from junk food and soft drinks. The idea is not to gain too much weight on the road, it's very tempting but so much more worth it to eat well. Supper times were my favorite meals, on the 1st night we made spaghetti in our room, someone had brought along an electric 'over top' with 2 coils on it. The next night we went to a home-style restaurant and had fajitas, last night was Swiss Chalet chicken, yummy! Those were the only fries I had all week. On thursday right after work, we came back home. Stopped on the road for a sandwich and had a cola. So we did good, next week will be even better, hopefully there will be fridges in our room again and we'll be some fresh produces if we can find a grocery store. Walmarts aren't always in the best areas, sometimes the Walmart is the only store in the area, so we can't buy much there, though the chunky soups were pretty filling! ;)
Hey, did you know some Walmart even sell Krispy Kreme donuts? They are delivered every day, oh my!!! Of course I noticed this in a Quebec Walmart and we are now working in Ontario Walmarts. LOL! Soon enough, we'll be working in our own province, french will be the language of most people. It'll be fun to work and visit the whole province.
hugs, I miss reading blogs so much but I really love my job too. Now I can afford to buy yarn, just can't find the time to knit! LOL! Soon I hope I'll find my own pace and knit on the road. Until then, wishing everyone a great new week! My 1st 2 week paycheck is on friday and on that special day we will register Zoe in kindergarden!!! This will be a very exciting week for us. :)
Last little note, I have received a sample card from Ozeyarn (forget if I have said so previously) and am very satisfied with all the samples they included, their colors are beautiful. Just thought I'd share so don't miss out and order your own FREE sample card and buy some yarn from down under. ;)
Off we go, being paid to travel, booked in hotel rooms and paid a food allowance every day, what can go wrong? Well give me a week and I'll come back to tell you! LOL! I am pretty nervou to leave home and travel so far, I get motion sickness too, so it should be quite an experience.
Sadly my printer decided to be on strike so I can't print the newly purchase celtic cap pattern. The pattern is written in all details, I don't think I'll get stumped anywhere with it. Fourteen pages seem to cover everything it needs! ;)
hugs,
Well today is a day off and what do we do? Both Carl and I are going to work to practice! LOL! Well there's also a little 2 day paycheck waiting for us. I can't wait to get it, just for the excitement of receiving my 1st paycheck! Since we are leaving town on monday to return thursday night, today is the only day we can practice on the audit machines. We know that working for Walmart will be very serious and they want us to enter a said amount by hour. I am very nervous about it and practicing today will reassure me.
Anyway, started a little Regia hat in the subway yesterday, it felt good to knit for the 1st time in a week, only about 4 rows done, nothing worth taking a picture for. ;) I will try to knit more so that I can at least post a pic before we leave.
Wishing you all a great weekend. :)

She has become a good fan of this blog as she finds I share more about myself here than I do in real life. These days it's easy, we come home from work, eat and go to sleep, get up, take shower and out the door we are. So I've neglected the blog a tad bit, also inspiration just isn't there all the time, a lot is happening right now that I don't feel like sharing at the moment, so it makes for short entries too. I want to get back to knitting though as I feel like a piece of me is missing when not knitting. So here I go, my latest blog entry starts.
Worked this morning and working this evening, we're home in time to eat lunch and take a nap with the kids! LOL! Worked at a Winners today, it's our 3rd one so we mostly know what to do, sadly though this store was not as well picked up as the others stores. So we mostly had to deal with stuff all over the places or racks and store shelving. At least I had a GREAT time, for the 1st time since I started working I had not one in counting. I couldn't be more proud, it was really affecting my spirits to have made a mistake each day, though it's really easy to count an extra lipstick when you have 163 lipsticks to add up. This store was awful though, it was freezing cold this morning and more than half of the employees didn't come in, so on top of having to work for 17 missing people, we got many errors, everyone kept adding wrong. It's so easy though to get mixed up like when counting 400 pairs of socks and one falls down, where was it before falling? Oye! But *I* got no mistakes today! LOL! It really started to make me wonder if I was just not meant for the job but finally I just started to do it right! ;) Hopefully tonight it will go as well too.
Still looking for a pair of slippers to knit for next week. Any suggestions? I had some fuzzy feets so I'd like a change.
Hope everyone is well in blog-land, I haven't had much time to visit my blogging friends in the past days.

Have you seen this new hat for sale? It's beautiful!!!!! Here's the link (yeah, Jo that would help!) LOL! Celtic cap
Wishing you all a great new week, my working week started yesterday but I'm getting thursday and friday off. ;) Also as a teaser, I'm going to say I got a promotion too! LOL! But no time to explain, dh is already waiting after me, 90 minutes of public transport will be tough, 2 subways + 1 bus. OYE!
hugs,
Yesterday was a day of firsts, my 1st day working and the 1st skating lesson for Lucas! :) It's hard to even say which one I am more excited about. I think seeing Lucas on the ice we the most thrilling experience of the day, though my work day comes VERY close behind. So let's start with my boy's skating.
Can I just say that Lucas was the cutest on the ice tonight? Oh my goodness, he wore his Old Navy quilted sweater and looked so spiffy, so handsome, so big boy. The skating club responsibles all thought he was irresistible. He had a BIG smile on and was eager to hop on the ice. LOL! He's adorable, by the time he got off the ice tonight he could get up on his own and started to 'skate' all by himself, mostly skate walking by dang! he was cute. He walked half of the width of the ice twice today. One of the coaches said he should be good at skating in no time, just like Zoe. I was so proud to hear it. :) Another mom said that skating must really run in the family, she couldn't believe how quickly Lucas was improving in the hour-long lesson.
I was so excited at the end of his lesson, he even received a white ribbon with something similar too: today I can skate on my own! LOL! Very sweet, the head coach said how she likes to reward them after hard work and he sure worked hard yesterday! Lucas was grinning for all the lesson, he can't wait to go skate again with his teacher, not us boring parent but with *his* teacher aka coach! Such a big boy! :) I'm so proud!!!! :) With his birthday being next month, I think we will make it extra special and bring him skating at an outside rink or another place special rink. So Lucas will be going to his lessons twice a week just like his big sis. She was so proud of him and told everyone how he was her little brother. :) They even held hands skating at the end, so sweet! :)
I haven't knitted a single stitch once again, today I have the day off so hopefully I will try to cast on the sleeve on my sweater. Carl and I will be working for the next four days so I doubt I will have much time to post or knit. I might try to update my blog in the evenings if possible. Anyway, I LOVE my job, on my 1st day worked almost 6 hours. I couldn't be more excited when they said BREAK-TIME!!!! hey, it was my 1st paid break ever. LOL! I have been very nervous though for the past week and couldn't eat more than one bite for breakfast, hopefully that will pass as we never know when our days will finish. Anyway tomorrow is a clothing store so that should be fun. :) Yesterday we worked at a Mexx warehouse counting all the clothes of their new and older collections. I scanned and counted, summer tanks, suede jackets, pants of all sorts and it was FUN!!! Carl was working in the same row as I was so it was nice to know someone close by. Our supervisor wanted us to work together so we didn't feel too lost, I appreciated the special touch! :) At the warehouse we were at least 50 auditors counting everything, next week there's one store where we will be 230 workers from the company to count a store, now THAT should be something. Everyone with their little burgandy polo shirts, we look so cute. ;)
hugs, I'll be enjoying my first day off! LOL! ;)

Anyway this morning I have to be out the door at 7am! I haven't had to get up at 6am in YEARS!!! That is really something. Mostly I am excited though, this is suppose to be a part time job but they have so many hours right now we can work as much as possible. I can't believe all the places we will be going at it is VERY exciting, though next week we will have to take the bus at 5:30am. OYE!!!
Anyway, after the training session we stopped at a used sporting goods store.... can you imagine my surprise when I saw 3 pairs of figure skates in black. Two were in Lucas's size so we took the nicer ones, to find some in his size too, that's what I call destiny. ;) Ran home, got the kids ready and went to the ice rink. I remember to bring along the digicam to share this moment with you all. So Lucas was VERY eager to get his skates on, he happily walked on the ice and even wanted to skate on his own. He mostly fell but had a blast, he REALLY enjoyed his time on the ice and now is SO eager to start his skating lessons tonight. Hopefully we will be back from work in time to take both kids to the rink, or else my mom (bless her heart!) will bring them and we'll meet them there. I don't think it will come to that though.
Hey, my new job is called being an auditor, counting inventory for different stores and getting to play with a little calculator machine hanging from your hip. LOL! We got our official company polo shirts yesterday, ONE shirt! I'll be working 8 tines in te next 12 days and I get ONE shirt. Oh and it's a short sleeved shirt too, how Canadian is that? Well the company is American after all. :-P So had to buy myself a turtleneck, black pants and black shoes too, so hopefully I don't freeze working in a clothing warehouse today.
Sadly I haven't even casted the 2nd sleeve of my sweater yet, I keep running after time and it's slipping away.
Gotta go work my 1st day at my 1st job! Talk to you later! :)
Zoe's skating lessons are back, went skating with her tuesday and then went skating with Lucas on wednesday. Zoe was SOOOO proud to show me a few skating moves, I still can't break though! LOL! Poor girl when she'd fall, I'd skate around and around until I could stop and help. It was pretty funny and brought a few giggles to both of us. ;) I CAN skate on one foot and backwards though, I didn't think I could even do that. Must be that my 4 year old teacher is pretty good. ;) She's asking that I trade in my black hockey skates for white figure skates like her. ;)
Lucas on the other hand.... he was.... well, he's not even 3 yet. ;) He just wants to skate, not learn to walk on ice and then start to glide and skate, he just wants to skate and NOW! So Carl and I held his hands and had him skate with us. He did do a few steps on his own and we encouraged him when he did but then, he'd fall down and was very insulted! ;) One of the skating school directors said we should bring Lucas in for a lesson tonight but I knew he'd be too tired as he didn't even take a nap vefore going to skate. He might get his 1st lesson on friday though! Woohoo! I want to try to find him some figure skates by then, black ones are really too expensive which are typically those boys use. Being crafting I'll try to find white ones and (I wouldn't even care if he skated with those skates) we might try to paint/stain/color them black. They'll cost a fraction of the price and then my boy would be the happiest on the ice. I've had fun skating these past two days and think I will go back again soon. There's free ice time everyday for one hour, it feels good to exercise a bit and to share a sport both kids seem to like! :)
OH, 1st sleeve on my top secret sweater is DONE!!! :) You have no idea how busy we have been, this is such an accomplishment! lol! Won't have time to cast on the 2nd sleeve before tonight and maybe I will find time.
Thursday morning(ACK! that's today!!!) is my job training, it'll be about 4 hours, I am very excited and eager to get started! WOOHOO!!!!!!! I can't wait to see my very first paycheck with my name on it. :)
hugs,
p/s: Talked to the skating school person in charge and they could care less if Lucas had white skates, they asked if he would mind. I explained how figure skates in his mind were meant to be white. They thought it was too cute and will welcome him wearing white skates friday. Hopefully I won't have to work then, I just can NOT miss his 1st lesson!!!

I very nervously knitted on a ribbed baby hat on our bus ride there. The trainer was very cute, I mean NICE, had did that slip. ;) He will be training us on thursday morning and we should start working this weekend. It is very exciting as we called yesterday morning, got there in the afternoon. We almost got into the training for today but it was really too full, those who train today get to work tomorrow, lucky them. ;) Anyway thirty percent of all business do inventory in jan/feb. so we couldn't start at a better time with this company. I am SO excited it's funny, dh keeps bugging me, he enjoys teasing me as I am SO happy right now. :)
I'll try to knit today to show us tomorrow. LOL!

it's only two kinds but still isn't it just the neatest? I couldn't be happier right now 'cause yes little things
like that make me happy. Also they always have great sales prices so how can you not love them? :)

making a few. :) They can bring luck to your home also and is a great way to start a new year. There is a tradition that the gift of a thousand paper cranes is a powerful gesture of caring, devotion, and love.
In 1955, Sadako, a 12-year old Japanese girl, lay dying from radiation sickness 10 years after the bombing in Hiroshima. She undertook to fold 1,000 cranes so that she could live. Sadako also wrote a Haiku (Japanese poem) that read in part: "I shall write peace upon your wings, and you shall fly around the world so that children will no longer have to die this way." Sweet Sadako died before she could complete her task. Her classmates folded the remaining number so that she was buried with One Thousand Cranes. Ever since, the Origami crane has become recognized worldwide as a symbol of peace and nuclear disarmament. A granite statue of Sadako stands in the Hiroshima Peace Park: a young girl standing with her hand outstretched, a paper crane flying from her fingertips.

Wishing everyone a great week.
p/s: check yesterday's entry if you are interesting in charity knitting!
pp/s: I would appreciate some good vibes sent my way, today I am going to my 1st job interview in a lifetime. Really nervous but luckily I'll be going with dh, hoping to come back with some good news later on!!!

Working on the 1st sleeve of my top secret sweater, one day it'll be done, until then it's working up slowly.
More patterns for charity knitting, I knit for babies so those are the links I share. There are many more in need too, military stationed away from home, cancer survivors and elders at your local hospital, animals in shelters. Choose a cause and don't just sit there, knit something! ![]()

Not sure where to send your knitted items? Call a local hospital, birthing center, maybe even the local WIC chapter of your area. Many are in need locally, if you want to help elsewhere there are many in need also. The few that come first to mind are afghans for afghans, project linus, many other causes here: charity causes online and here: charity knitting.
That's it for today.
hugs,

The topsecret sweater is so slowly coming along, I haven't knit much in the past 3 days so it isn't 'growing' much. Right now is the boring body part, so it's long, not advancing much and I'm getting bored, luckily the sleeves will hopefully be started today.
Most stores are still closed today so we aren't doing much.
Hope your holidays were lovely. :)

As my new year wish to you all, I wish you "just enough"!
Just enough money to enjoy the occasional splurge,
just enough rain to appreciate the sunny days,
just enough pain so that happier times are even more appreciated,
just enough good things to appreciate them,
just enough losses to appreciate what you have,
just enough new beginnings and only a few last goodbyes,
and of course, love but LOTS is always better than just enough. ;)
(this was badly translated from a french wish, hope you enjoy it nonetheless!)
No resolutions this year, I made some last year and never got around to them. This year, I hope to knit more for myself and others, I really like the charity knitting I started. I'm working on my very first sweater and it is so exciting! Maybe I'll knit myself some socks and check out the Knitty archives again. There's a bag I really like also. Hopefully, I will find time to knit at least one sweater for each kid. Slippers for myself wouldn't be too much, I just made a hole through the fuzzy feet after constant wearing for 10 months. ;)
So may this new year bring you more happiness than ever, you all deserve it and don't be shy to leave a little hello in my comments. I always enjoy a friendly note from you all. :)
hugs,
