Happy 3!

Today marks three years since I first posted a few words on my blog. When I started blogging, I wasn't even knitting yet, it was more about me being a mom of two kids. I still blog a lot about family but have picked up knitting as a hobby along the way. I have made great online friends along the way, even got to meet more than a few between Montreal and Toronto.

To celebrate though I am taking a break from blogging (more sign generators here), who knows I might actually post more after saying this, which is what Kelly seems to be doing. Both Carl and I have recently gone jobless and it's been quite a journey dealing with our former employer. I am tired, really tired and just want to lift the pressure (that I put on myself) of posting new entries. I might go on vacation again, might not but Toronto is high on my list right now and no matter what others say, I LOVE Toronto!!!

My birthday is three weeks away and frankly all I want right now is to be happy! Much has happened in the last year and more so, since I started working january 2004. Our lives have turned upside down a few times since, we have always known to expect to unexpected but still it is hard. I feel that I have lost a few good friends along the way too. So I am taking a break to take care of myself and my family, they need me to be in a good mood, with energy and happy. This is not about you, it's all about me, it's my blog after all. LOL!

I will still knit, I will still comment on blogs, I hope to come back in a few weeks with a new blog design and a rested mind. As you can see I have quite a few projects lined up to keep me busy. Hopefully I will be able to come back with many new pictures, just like Laura often posts.

So I am off to care for these little ones that make my days so complete. BBQ's around here are more about toasted marshmallows and smores than actual supper. Who can blame them?

Pieces of me,

WOOHOO! This my friends is the preview of the next IK issue to come out. Even more, the front cover features a pattern from Miss Kate herself. Could things get any better for this gal, a baby, new designs, now if only she'd move over to this side of the Atlantic!

This little piece of crystal is very special to me, for the most part simply because Carl surprised me with it a few weeks ago. Also because it has so much meaning for me, I often feel like a piece in a big puzzle of life, just like the kids are pieces in my own puzzle. Every major event is one's life is like adding a new piece to the puzzle. I like it, I like it's symbol and I like that my boyfriend surprised me with it when I least expected it.

Beautiful day,

Gotta love little knitting projects, the clogs I started for Lucas could be made in a day, how fun! When he saw me cast on for Zoe's poncho though he wasn't happy... what about my own project? Don't worry little one I am almost done, he couldn't be more pleased of course. LOL! We are enjoying a wonderful weekend, the sun is out, the kids have been sleeping well and everyone's in a happy mood. Tonight we are even getting the bbq out for supper, what a treat. :)

Zoe's poncho is hiding behing my oh so cute Tinkerbelle coffee mug, we went to the Disney store while in TO and they had sales, they ALWAYS have something on sale. So we got some coffee mugs for Carl and I. I thought the poncho's colors were pretty similar to the mug. It's been so warm this weekend, I feel almost silly to knit this poncho but it's what Zoe wanted. Right now, she's pretty excited about the thought of wearing it to school tomorrow and we will do whatever it takes to make her happy to go to school. LOL! The pattern I am using is from Yarn Halot although I am doing reverse yarn over's as Zoe requested no holes. She is pretty precise about what she wants. ;)

Next project in line? Well either the kids let me cast on something for myself or they will come up with something for themselves again. Oh how I wonder what it will be. teehee!

This and that,

Ok now, who wants to convince me that spinning yarn is awful and shouldn't be pursued. Oh please, I beg you to make me think it's really hard and a hateful hobby to pick up. LOL! Already I am planning on making another trip to Toronto, I mean come on, my birthday is less than a month away too. Then there's the fact that I 'forgot' to pick up a few more things while in town last week. I gotta go back and I'm stomping my foot too! LOL! Even since I saw a spinning wheel, I've been tempted, I never actually tried one but hey, I can dream, right?

Things to remember, you can't magic loop clogs, it just ain't practical, migraines may start when you are very stressed out about everything, a six year old can find school boring. Argh! Thank goodness we are lucky that our school is so great, yesterday Zoe's teacher sent us a letter, not a note. Oye! I think this weekend will be a 'special' one, filled with activities with the kids. Last but not least, trying to learn to crochet with a mirror next to my computer to mirror everything for left-handed me can 'get' it is not so easy, still it is quite enjoyable when borrowing mom's new Brittany crochet hook. ;)

Tuesday was the 1st time the school called us to get Zoe. She had been sick right after lunch time. When we got to school though she was all smiles and you would've never guessed this kid was sick. Right before bedtime Lucas gets sick, is this sibling sympathy? Then this morning Zoe decides to skip school, she's done for the year even, hun? We keep her home and after a few hours of coaxing we start to know more about her worries. See we have been dealing with sibling rivalry these past few days/weeks. I am an only child so this is all new to me, can't say I am always making the right decisions or that I am always fair but I try the best I can. I guess it's been takng a toll on Zoe though as she is simply fed up about the whole situation. I believe most importantly she needs her special time alone with undivided attention. Gosh, I wonder how others do it? After a whole day home playing with her brother though, she realizes how much she loves him and that they are here to stay, both of them. You sure never know what to expect from kids...

So today I've been knitting away to at least finish a project Zoe chose for her birthday. I thought it would make her happy to see that I've been knitting away on her special gift. She helped me stuff him with carded wool and sat next to me a long time to just talk and see me knit. I told her it might be time for her to start knitting and she advised me that she had plans for a skirt, poncho and sweater for her new Snow White doll. Well... let's start with a doll scarf honey! ;)

As soon as I finish this huge Baby Bobbi Bear, I will be casting on purple clogs for Lucas, he wants his just like mommy and boy is he excited to know I should cast on tomorrow. :) Zoe wants clogs too but her's will be pink, she's all into that color right now. Then... who knows, maybe something for ME? LOL! Carl wants to knit himself a pod-cover and got himself some wool in Toronto for his own project. He's being all serious about this and even borrowed some Addis, sheesh! this guy is fancy. ;)

New items I used to knit Bobbi Bear are the 40" cable for my Denise needle set, Chibi needles, used the swift to ball up the yarn for the project oh and followed the newly purchased pattern to knit said bear. All except the yarn was from Toronto. I'll tell more as the projects get knitted. LOL!

She's 6 and TO report!

To start the day I must say that today is the official day I became a mother! I was 21 years old when Miss Zoe came into this world. On this day I "got it" what parenting meant, I caught on what my parents must have sacrificed to make me a happy kid. What a difference my world was going to be now that she was finally here. WOW! I am a mother on this very day for 6 years now, still it feels like only yesterday I was still pregnant and reading all the books to become a good mother and boy did I read them all. I was so scared, what if... but hey, each and every day we learn together, she learns about life and I learn about making it a bright one through her eyes.

Now onto my review of a few of the Toronto yarn shops, I do go back to Romni a second time, so in total I was six times in a yarn store on our vacations. We walked and used public transportation all around the downtown area, so it was nice to get to the yarn stores via TTC. We were lucky that we had great weather too, that helped us wanting to walk even more each day. :)

Romni Wools, this is my official stop each time I go to Toronto. How can I pass up a store that has just about everything I have only seen online before!? They had just the pattern I was needing, then newly arrived yarn in a great colourway, also they carry staple yarns that we don't have around here that I just love. Once again I had a great time with the helpful staff. I went there twice on this trip and closed the store both times, can I help it not wanting to leave?

Lettuce Knits, I bought so much in the store that I simply bought a cloth bag to carry my buys when I left. LOL! I went on the night of a stitch&bitch meeting and the knitters are so friendly in their group. I am SO jealous that they meet once a week. I could really see myself join them each week and talk about poutine. teehee! A few even remembered both Carl and I from meeting us back in October. Megan was really warm and welcoming as usual, Penelope was cute as can be hangin' in her baby trekker. Funny thing is my little Zoe is actually a Zoe Penelope so that was neat and we used to log her around in the baby trekker all through her baby/toddlerhood. This store has a great diversity of niiiiiice yarns and patterns, also great accessories which I got too. :)

Knit-O-Matic, a new store to visit on my list of yarn stores. It had Zara half-priced, need I say more? LOL! They also had a great variety in Koigu yarn and many yarns that I had never had the chance to feel before. This store has S&B meetings also. On our way to this store we got 'lost', well actually I noticed on the subway map that we were on our way to St.Clair station but then there's also St.Clair West. Oye! Luckily strangers notice when I seem lost and readily offer help to the nice tourists. We took two more subways and finally got off at the correct place. Who could have predicted that it was going to that 2 buses, two streetcars and another bus to make it to the next store though? Let me tell you, it's a good thing we were having such a good time sightseeing. LOL!

Naked Sheep, first I must say that I really like this store, even with the presence of Charlie. Now Charlie was a tad hyper when we came in and he sure seemed welcoming, I just thought he was a tad just bit BIG! He is just a few months old but boy is this dog big. LOL! I now know for a fact that I am scared of big dogs, he sure tried to make me fall for him though. Even had his paw on my shoe and insisted I throw him his ball. I'm sorry it was all about yarn for me, I did find a great kids patterns book. This store has S&B meetings also.

Knit Cafe, after walking more than two hours, this place was great to stop, have a Pressé (you have to try the ginger and lemongrass drink!) and sit! Having been on their website I knew Mister Pig (still nameless but they are working on it) would be there to great us, indeed he did sit in the front window. The owner was very nice to us and we had a great time looking at all the yarn. I also found the everyday cardigan pattern and got to scratch off one more item from my long "to buy" list. Next time I stop there I'm stocking up on the Cascade Quattro though. The cafe offers weekly meetings, knitting and crochet classes, sure wished I could have learn to crochet too.

Ok, so from my point of view Toronto is a great city to live in especially for knitters! They have weekly meetings in at least four stores, I love that. :) Also all the stores offer knitting and other fiber related classes to expand your knowledge and talent. If there were knitting camps in Toronto I would be the 1st one to sign up. On my TO camp I'd be taking a class at each store and have a special rebate on that day, hey it's my dream! I would get a chance to meet many friendly knitters/bloggers and I would have a blast. Carl would show off by knitting or maybe doing a bit of crochet and he'd talk with some boys about spinning. HA! I resisted, I didn't bring back a spinning wheel on the train, why? Because I actually never tried spinning and was afraid I wouldn't succeed, next time I don't make any promises though, even Carl is curious about spinning! Wouldn't we make a great couple? He spins and she knits! ;)

Other odd places we went by are 7eleven, Red Lobster, Taco Bell and the University of Toronto bookstore where I got a great new zippered sweatshirt. I feel so smart in it too. LOL! The restaurants and all the yarn, books, patterns, etc. I bought while in Toronto are all items I can not find locally so these were really needs more than wants, right? I had came prepared and had a great big list of things to buy, I only got a few extras but some very worth it, can you repeat SWIFT after me? :)

This ends my lovely vacation in Toronto!

I heart TO!

Quick post, typing as fast as I can. LOL! Toronto you have done it again, you have made all my dreams come true and more. Yarn, friends, getting lost on the TTC, sales, the Disney store. Oh my, what can one ask for more? We are having a great time, Toronto, I love you!

Off to have even more fun.
A real post will come next week.

Keep on knitting'

This is the latest project I have been working on, I picked up the needles on sunday and have already joined my 2nd ball of two. This is a fun projects and I keep knitting continental, it's going well though I worry more when I'd knit socks or something where gauge matters more than for a bag. The pattern is called Quadulation and was created by Titanium Rose, sadly her pattern isn't available right now but she willbe sharing it for those on the Bag-A-Holic's list. Guess I was lucky and saved it when I still could. Isn't it perfect timing to be knitting up some yarn I purchased in my last trip to Toronto? (check under Oct. 4th and 11)

Zoe asked me if we could kool aid dye some yarn soon and I thought that was so neat. I hope she becomes a knitter soon too. ;) Today she has a very special sports day, her class is joining classes from another school for a greadt day of fun in the sun. We walked by the school today and they had 8 huge inflatable games on the grounds and many sports were being played with animators with the kids. Tonight Zoe's having her last (well if all goes well) spring school skating lesson, it's sad to see her skating season is finally done but this private coach has had to reschedule almost each week. We aren't sure yet what we will do skating wise next fall, guess we'll cross the bridge once we get to it. ;) Anyway that pic is of the kids being messengers, as you can see Lucas is pretty busy with this job and carries three bags to hold all his deliveries! ;) Oh we did not apply the "do not skate in the house rule", it snows for so long in Montreal that they get to skate on the hardwood floors.

Last night I got a really cute email from my mom (you may recall we live with her too) and I really feel special that we have our little e-card thing going on. We like to send each other cards that say stuff we probably wouldn't say out loud. It's just one of those things that you don't realize how much you like it until you stop doing it so off to email a card to my mom. teehee!

Science and yarn

Thursday we went to Zoe's school to see her participate in a school wide science fair event (kindergarden's project was what floats and what doesn't). She was beaming when we entered the school doors. She was so proud that her little brother and the whole rest of the family came to see her. Then on friday lucky girl, she got to learn about poi, I am really jealous as I have yet to try it and she said it way a lot of fun. One of the animators of this special project has survived the tsunami events and Zoe talked about it to us when she came back from school, with so many loosing their lives in those tragic days, for her to have met someone who survived it was pretty special.

I have been working on knitting the continental way, I am left-handed in life and it's always bothered me that I was knitting using my right hand. Now it doesn't mean I'll stop but I have always wanted to get better using my left hand instead, I did dab a few times in the combined method but I just really want to continental like many others I see knit. Well getting the knit stitch is going well but purling isn't as easy, I also have to check how I tension my yarn, it just doesn't feel like I have found my rhythm yet. Well tonight on starting yet another new project, I tried the norwegian purl, I had seen pictures of this method and read all about it many times but I just couldn't grasp it. That is until tonight! :) The wonderful knitter behind Knitting Help, has created an easy and SLOW video to view and learn this stitch. I'm so proud that I finally understood it and it is easy for me to do so I've been practising while knitting tonight.

Today I picked up an old project of mine, I haven't knitted on this for a few months and it is really sad as I love this project. I do sleep next to it every night though. LOL! My Charlotte's Web shawl is slowly progressing, I forgot how soft the Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool is to my fingers, I will be knitting this project in the english method until I am done though. I want to keep the same tension for it, I'd say the shawl is about halfway done.

Zoe's birthday is coming up soon and she will be receiving a knitted gift or two to celebrate, one of them is a gnome that I am knitting from this pattern. Once again a very generous knitter is sharing her own pattern for all to knit. I am so thankful to bloggers who create patterns and share them with their readers, we have some very creative knitters out there. :) The colors in the picture are a bit off, they are violet, champagne and pink panther under the Louet yarn is a hot pink to make her felted slippers. :)

A good book!

I started reading my new book tonight and already I am at chapter 10, that's when I had to get out of the tub. LOL! The Shop on Blossom Street is such a nice read, I just wished I could go shop there. I want to join the new knitters class. I want to meet those people I am reading about. I can't wait to read more!

The chickami is dead, I ran out of yarn, it's too big and I now hate it. So I'll be getting back to my book soon enough. I went to a yarn store and after walking three times around the store touching every single yarn, I left with nothing. I am just not inspired right now to knit so I'm just going to read my new book for a while. I am tempted to start knitting the baby blanket pattern from the book though. LOL!

Also I really like the look of this pinwheel blanket and might join the knit-along. I'm mostly afraid I'd run out of yarn though so not sure what yarn to pick up for this, also it's not like I need a baby blanket either. Although, I have seen this Knitted Patchwork Sampler Afghan or was it the Aran Knit Sampler Afghan on a blog (sadly can't remember whch one, it's not one of my regualr reads to make it harder!) Then there's the fact that I'd love to learn to crochet and try my hand at one of those crochet blankets. Yup! I'm in a blanket mood aka no gauge needed project right now. Ok as I type this I'm checking websites and found this neat freebie: Introduction to Aran Knitting, now I want to learn more about aran knitting, after all my dream is to knit a big gorgeous fisherman's sweater one day. I just wished we could find fisherman's wool locally (just 'cause they come in huge balls and I love the natural color.

Yup! That's what I'll do, start a blanket one block at a time, very protable project and doing a block at a time doesn't seem as scary as starting a whole blanket all at once. Now the yarn.... what should I use? What can I find that would be perfect for a blanket?

Mom's day 2005

Good morning and Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who day in and day out keep busy with kiddos that make us crazy happy! If you think Lucas looks like a little mafia boy... well, the suit did come from a guy we know...

So it's mother's day and what better way to keep busy than to curl up on the couch and read a good novel about a yarn shop. Woohoo! This is the 1st book I'm reading from Debbie Macomber, she has another one coming out this very month, A Good Yarn which is the 2nd book of the series. So this is my very own gift to myself on this special day. One of the kids has been testing my patience these past few days, making it hard to go out of the house... apparently tamper tantrums are fun to do... Argh!

Last night watched Ocean's Eleven and will be watching Ocean's Twelve tonight, great incentive to keep me up with all the stockinette knitting for the chickami. There is hope, I finally see the light as to the day I will be seperating front and back. LOL! Of course there's also a fear starting as I keep on knitting this project... What will I start on next? There's this cutie dress the Crumpets that I keep looking at, Zoe's birthday is this month also but then again, maybe a Hello Kitty top would suit her better... Oh dear, what to do...

The other night we went all out, ate cheese fondue, then a chinese fondue and wait, had to complete the meal with a chocolate fondue. Oh yeah, we are THAT wild! LOL! The meal was SO good and Zoe couldn't have been more proud of cooking her own food. I love fondue and would have it most nights but it does make for long meals as we ate for almost two hours. LOL!

Freebie alert: Dairy Queen offers a free sunday to all mom's today.

Have a lovely day,

Progress

Stockinette knitting can be boring, well that's if you don't give yourself an excuse to knit it maybe. I made sure that it wouldn't be boring by keeping my evenings busy watching movies. It's always a surprise by the end of the movie to see how much I progressed and it was a great way to see some movies, I've been wanting to check out. I am liking the pattern alot as mindless knitting is just what I needed right now. We just got our last paychecks and it's sinking in, it's tough as we have nothing to look forward too for the next few weeks.

This week, we watched Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Spanglish, ok we also watched the Amazing Race. I'm so sad Gretchen and Meredith's team is now gone, I loved them. The declaration of love he made to his wife when they were eliminated just made my knees weak. They are adorable! :)

I'm sorry I forgot the quotes I loved in the movies though, I know one was similar to "I love you when you're on drugs Bridget" in the 1st movie and it was just so funny. LOL! Then in the 2nd movie, what I really liked were the life lessons that the father seemed to share. I learned alot as a parent with that movie, I loved the part where it's your job to worry about your kids and it was just so well said. I just can't remember the exact words of course...

We are off for a day in town but first, we have to stop at the best pancakes in town restaurant!

Scene 1, take 2!

Scene one, take two. Clap! I started the chickami again and will now be the boss of my knitting. I will succeed no matter what, so move on over yarns and needles and make place for success. :)

Yesterday Carl and I went to visit Montreal's new Bibliothèque nationale du Québec public library, it's a new one that will serve the whole province too. Luckily we live in the same city so we have easy access to all it's books, cds and get this, dvds!!! We rented three movies for three weeks at no cost! Love the new public library, the kids couldn't be happier, they got new movies to watch, we are going back as soon as we can to visit more of the wonderful place.

Here's a great new tidbit for sewing seams! Well it's new to me and I think it just saved a few unfinished projects I've had laying in a pile somewhere. Bonne Marie shares her way to sew up seams, easily and looks like it's painless too. ;)

On better news, even though both Carl and I aren't working at the moment, we are planning a little family weekend escapade to boost our spirits. Now where oh where should we go? Right now my top votes are Toronto and Ottawa bu Quebec city could be a good choice also. Of course my main concern is yarn stores... teehee! ;)

End of a project,

Have I mentioned how much I hate to seam and weave in ends? Still need to buy the buttons too. Baby A is a month old today, I'm thinking his mom will receive this set on mother's day, that gives me the whole week to muster the energy to finish this project! (note to self: jacket: EZ Baby Surprise Sweater aka EZ BSS, booties, hat made with 3 balls of Bernat Satin yarn on 5mm addi turbos)

As you can see we are finding good chores to keep Lucas occupied while it's raining outside, though in his fisherman's raincoat you can guess he's actually excited when it rains all week long. ;) Carl and Lucas played a good game of street hockey right in the house, daddy had to say time out, he way tired! LOL!

I am just numb, can't find the strength or joy to knit right now. I just sulk and crave Hagen Dazs at the moment.

p/s: Lack of pictures from Zoe are simply do that the silly girl is at school.

May 01, 2005

Blue yarn,

Finally after a few days of stressful startitis, I found a pattern to work on, Chickami with wide straps. Yes, I am the girl that doesn't wear tank tops that will knit one. That's just sad but oh well, I even chose blue to go with my mood.

Yesterday we went to the video place to rent a movie, since we don't have a microwave we were hoping to find a jiffy pop gizmo to amuse the kids. (If you don't know what this is, it's basically just popping popcorn on the stove, the popcorn is in this contraption/sealed pan which expands as the corn pops.) Well after a dude from the video guy calls me Sir... and then not finding any jiffy I was ready to bolt. I am NOT a guy, ok? I am tired of people coming up to me and saying Sir (more so, when the guy bursted laughing when he realised his mistake). I better start liking pink or something, it aggravates me to no end. Anyway, we got Shark Tale for the kids, was a nice one to watch, had some laughs when we watched it in french, might switch to english tonight. Oh and we have a hot air popcorn maker so don't worry too much about us. ;)

Then I made this huge swatch, (if you know me, anything more than 2 X 2" is huge, I made one that was 5 X 6"). I casted on for my project, then promptly ripped it out. Started again, went to bed late to at least finish the ribbing part, sadly I takes about 10 minutes to knit a round. This morning I knit a few hours only to then decide to check the gauge, you know where this is headed right? I am off 1 stitch per inch!!! Why? Simply because silly me did my swatch in stockinette in flat (knit row, purl row) but the pattern is in the round so it's all knit. ARGH! So I rip, rip, rip, rip. I'm almost in tears seeing that this is the 3rd time I will cast on this $*%$^* project. I'm going to start yet again another swatch but wait, the needles I need for them are on another project. ARGH! Can anything just go my way for once?

Well at least, Zoe's report card is a glowing one, as usual her teacher loves her and that's about it. At home though we seem to have more trouble with her though. Perhaps it's because we started being home more so she's testing us.

If I weren't taking the pic I'd be squeezing Carl too. Daddy's home!!!

Last thursday (after a very hectic work week and at 10pm in the evening) Carl was told that his presence would not be required anymore for the Walmart tour starting in the maritimes this week. Our boss hasn't even had the balls to call me and tell me to my face uh... ear. So basically they just left us high and dry to work locally in Montreal. Sadly there is not much work to be done here, so we are out of work just like that. This is really hard as we have been planning for almost a year our next few weeks. At least I hadn't bought new luggage but still we had stuff we had already gotten for 10 weeks on the road. Now everything is screwed up of course. I had promised the kids new beds, well they'll have to wait, Zoe's feet are starting to peak over her mattress though. This boss is leaving the country in a few weeks for a great promotion, he doesn't care about us. It hurts so badly though, it just isn't fair, we were finally being happy for once. It's just too hard.

Off to swatch.... or not, I don't know anymore.
