To knit or not to knit...

Last week I wrote to three different online stores and actually, I even contacted a last one on sunday and they were the first one to reply. Any idea which one I will be ordering from? I do understand companies are busy but how long should I wait to get a simple answer?

After spending more than an hour at a yarn store and changing yarn 5 times, projects 3 times, I left the store with yarn and a pattern in mind. Once I get home though, I regretted my choice, not the yarn but the pattern. Here's my problem though, how do you justify buying a 25$ book just to knit a one-page pattern. Sure Cornelia Hamilton worked hard designing her projects but come on, I'm not knitting Klaralund, the one I liked is Tovesta. I really wished that some designer patterns were available for sale seperately, this is not like I can borrow the book at the library. LOL! Sure I could try to wing it... that in itself is pretty funny. So what to do... what to do? Either I go with knitting a Booga bag (which I have already in the past but it still needs to be felted!) or I try my design talents on the Tovesta bag. What's the worst that can happen, really, that I frog the project? It wouldn't be the 1st time but Kureyon is quite a pain to rip though.

Here's to wanting to start a project quickly and now instead, wondering if I should knit up a bag that I'd end up giving away or fork over big money for a book that I won't need anymore in a week. Argh! Above that's my yarn colorways aka number 51!

hugs,

Too bad I didn't know you were looking for that Noro book. I have it as I have knitted Klaralund and had I known you wanted it I could have given it to you. Thanks for visiting my blog by the way. :) Posted by: Tess Viwattana at August 15, 2005 11:31 PM
i'm gonna be in montreal this week - any suggestions for where to get my knit on? i've been to the yarn shop at rachel et st. hubert a few times and been somewhat disappointed. and it seems the church of craft snb is on the following weekend. Posted by: jae at August 16, 2005 12:44 AM
Hi Jo, I'm a new member of Montreal Knits and just found your blog. I can definitely relate to not wanting to buy a whole book for a single pattern. I've been knitting for about 50 years and have far too many books with patterns never to be knitted. It's one of the reasons I started The Knitting Vault, a downloadable knitting and crochet pattern site. I look forward to the day that yarn companies and their pattern books are available routinely on my site, so that knitters have a real choice. With yarn getting more expensive and, for the most part, wonderful (like Noro's Iro), buying a single pattern should not be so hard. Here's hoping....
