Science and yarn

Thursday we went to Zoe's school to see her participate in a school wide science fair event (kindergarden's project was what floats and what doesn't). She was beaming when we entered the school doors. She was so proud that her little brother and the whole rest of the family came to see her. Then on friday lucky girl, she got to learn about poi, I am really jealous as I have yet to try it and she said it way a lot of fun. One of the animators of this special project has survived the tsunami events and Zoe talked about it to us when she came back from school, with so many loosing their lives in those tragic days, for her to have met someone who survived it was pretty special.

I have been working on knitting the continental way, I am left-handed in life and it's always bothered me that I was knitting using my right hand. Now it doesn't mean I'll stop but I have always wanted to get better using my left hand instead, I did dab a few times in the combined method but I just really want to continental like many others I see knit. Well getting the knit stitch is going well but purling isn't as easy, I also have to check how I tension my yarn, it just doesn't feel like I have found my rhythm yet. Well tonight on starting yet another new project, I tried the norwegian purl, I had seen pictures of this method and read all about it many times but I just couldn't grasp it. That is until tonight! :) The wonderful knitter behind Knitting Help, has created an easy and SLOW video to view and learn this stitch. I'm so proud that I finally understood it and it is easy for me to do so I've been practising while knitting tonight.

Today I picked up an old project of mine, I haven't knitted on this for a few months and it is really sad as I love this project. I do sleep next to it every night though. LOL! My Charlotte's Web shawl is slowly progressing, I forgot how soft the Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool is to my fingers, I will be knitting this project in the english method until I am done though. I want to keep the same tension for it, I'd say the shawl is about halfway done.

Zoe's birthday is coming up soon and she will be receiving a knitted gift or two to celebrate, one of them is a gnome that I am knitting from this pattern. Once again a very generous knitter is sharing her own pattern for all to knit. I am so thankful to bloggers who create patterns and share them with their readers, we have some very creative knitters out there. :) The colors in the picture are a bit off, they are violet, champagne and pink panther under the Louet yarn is a hot pink to make her felted slippers. :)

hugs,

Combined knitting? You mean someone has ripped off my method, legitimized it and given it an actual name?? Who knew?! As to the Norwegian purling, you're on your own. I don't think I could create that one without having gotten a lobotomy (or at least a new brain from The Wizard)... Perhaps I'll drop them an email and let them know that even though they borrowed my style and are making fat money off it, I'm not mad at them... (Annoyed I didn't think of doing it myself, perhaps--but I'm getting over that part, too). Posted by: deawn at May 15, 2005 03:51 AM
