~*~Happy St-Jean-Baptiste!!!~*~ below is the Quebec flag

The 24th of June marks the Feast of St John the Baptist. This is known as St Jean Baptiste Day to French speaking cultures.

The date originally was the pagan celebration of the summer solstice. King Clovis of France christianized the event by making it a religious celebration of the birth of John the Baptist. John the Baptist is known as the Precursor of Christ, rebirth, and the light to the world, which explains the link to the solstice. Bonfires were lit to symbolize the light of the World.

Ok what that basically means is today is a National holiday for all Quebecers. We celebrate by playing loud french music, cooking on the BBQ and drinking beer. There's a big party at a park with music and more beer, by 9PM everyone is drunk and either it is funny or (for parents mostly) scary! ;)

So dh is off work to celebrate, I'll be knitting inside as it is too hot and humid to go out outside with my two feet in the kiddie pool. ;)

Have a great day!
