More on Continental,

Spent most of my knitting time playing with the continental way today. As you might recall, yesterday I was trying the combined knitting and was doing pretty well. That's until I read that I would have to wrap the yarn another way around the needle when knitting in the round. To keep things simple for me, as I know myself and would forget to knit one way flat and then knit another way in the round. I started concentration more on the actual continental style. I was mixing up the purls of both way but finally I'm getting better and quicker! LOL! I did prefer the simpler way of combination at first but continental is growing on me as I keep on knitting that way.
Only bummer is that I have 2 work-in-progress projects that will need to be completed in english style to keep the tension going. Especially for my shawl, I don't want to throw off my gauge too much and ruin it. The sock I wouldn't mind too much but since I had to redo the toes on the 1st sock twice, I don't feel like having to do that again. I don't have much extra yarn to play with in case my continental gauge is looser. All I want is to complete the Broadripple pair as fast as possible so the sock doesn't die into single sock doom. LOL! It was fun to try out Fixation yarn but since I did stop working on it for 6 weeks, my gauge changed and it made it harder to keep constant.
I might try my hand at a top down rolled brim hat though, a way to keep on practicing working with my left hand knitting. Funny how my right hand is always eager to jump in and hold the yarn but it's going well the new way. The reason I want to make a top down hat is, once again, I'm not sure how much yarn would be needed for the hat or how much I have left, so making a top down hat gives me a better chance of finishing it. That or I'll end with a stripe at the brim part! LOL!
A new week starts, hope I get to rest more than last week. I am SO eager for Zoe's skating lessons though, can't wait to see how much more she will improve in her next lessons. There was a significant change from the 1st lesson to the 2nd one. She's loving it and I just love seeing her smile from the ice and waving back to mommy!

You don't really wrap the yarn differently if using combined. The combined purl twists the stitch, so you have to knit through the back after a purl row. When you knit in the round you don't have the twist, so you knit as in regular continental. Same would hold true for garter stitch. It's also pretty obvious what you have to do for each stitch if you pay attention to your knitting. You are unlikely to forget. Having said that, I am a continental knitter and I think I purl just as fast as the combined people. It's very hard to change styles, your hands remember what they used to do. Good luck.
Good for you learning continental. I've pretty much always knit that way, couldn't get the hang of knitting at all til a university roommate showed me. The "other" way just looks so awkward to me now.
Good luck with continental. I like it better, but don't forget english, either. You will need it to work two-color, if you choose to do it with one color in left and the other in right hands.
Have a good day.
