Well, we're back.
Can't say I'm really happy about it but we had no choice. In the short time we were stuck in NoWhereLand we did have fun though! ;)
In a nutshell, the trailer had mushrooms, mildew and flies, 2 windows were broken and cold air even came in from the closed door at night. The 1st night we didn't even have heat. Electricity was only available in the evenings, no running water and the toilet had no tank under so we had to go potty at a restaurant. Zoe had fun pooping in a bag though! LOL! Since the restaurant was more of a bar serving food we prefered that Zoe not go there, so we'd put a bag in the trailer's potty and she'd do her biz there.
After the 1st night Lucas was already sick. 2nd night and we were all sick, dh and I both had scratchy throats, runny noses and watery eyes. Each time we'd go inside the trailer we felt like sleeping, it's probably all the bad germs in there. We tried to eat well but then our fridge stopped working and we lost all our food. UGH! We had to buy our drinking water but had access to "clean" water for dishes and washing the kids.
We were living right on a small mall's parking lot, 4 feet away from a main road. We could hear the circulation as if it was coming through the trailer. Oh yeah, the trailer leaked! Surprised? LOL!
Anyway after 4 nights sleeping there dh called it quits! I tried to encourage him as much as I can and make sure that he was taking this decision and not me pressuring him too. He realised that the family's health was, by far, more important than making money. That's a LITTLE money, after expenses and paying another guy to replace us once a week the pay would be slim. Especially since this was a job where even our basic needs weren't respected. We called the boss and they begged us to stay, they promised the next day someone would be there to replace us. Ok, we stayed one more day, at 1pm (the hour we were expecting the other guy) no new guy. By supper time still no news from anyone, we called and they begged AGAIN that we stay one more night. Dh said NO! How long were they going to beg us?
We finally came home and it felt so WEIRD! I hadn't missed the TV nor the computer, we didn't even have time to play cards while "camping" (that's how Zoe called our adventure). We were so busy setting up the trees and talking to people, the days flew by. It was FUN, I really enjoyed the outdoors, the kids loved it too. We had fun "working" for dh! ;) He gave us jobs! LOL! I got to unwrap trees, while the kids would shovel or at least stay within our area. We had no fences like other stands so we really had to check the kids. Cars were passing by like crazy in the parking lot, like only a few feets from our trailer, we sometimes feared they'd crash into us. Our trailer is the only one that had so many problems they said. Well I don't care, just change it? They couldn't and sent someone to live in it the day after we left. You know what? The employee refused and they checked out the trailer, the boss had decided it was unfit to live in! WHAT!?!?!?!? You were begging us to live in it a few more days but it's un-liveable? ARGH! Then the fun part? Dh had to fight to get his pay, they gave us a joke of a pay, saying that we didn't even tough one week. Well....!$?%%$?%?*&?%&%$/ So needless to say, we won't write this experience on our resumes...
I did realise a few things though. I like to be outside, like to be around dh, like to 'camp' and like to be useful aka "work". When we got home it felt so weird, I didn't feel at my place anymore. That 1st night I already missed the fun of being in the trailer. If only it had been a clean trailer... If I could I'd buy a trailer right now and go live in it and just travel the whole country with dh and the kids. We'd find little jobs on the side and that would pay for our food. Hey, I can dream, right? :)
Anyway, I'm happy to be back, I don't feel the need to be on the computer as much as before so I might not be around too much. Just having electricity is still weird to us! LOL! Now best of all monday morning we all need to go to the health clinic. :( This trip will have cost us more than we gained financially but I think it helped solidify our family bonds! :)
hugs to all and see ya around
p/s: I did get to knit quite a bit though! LOL! ;)
